Mockingbird Meadows is a biodynamic honey and herb farm located near the meandering Big Darby Creek, just southwest of Marysville, Ohio. Designated a State and National Scenic River, the Big Darby supports a unique ecosystem with many rare animal and plant species. Our 3.5 acres are an example of a small-scale partnership with the Earth. Since moving here in 2002, we have worked to transform what was once a large residential property into productive land filled with small farm plots, native medicinals and trees.
Each year we notice an increase in insect, amphibian, animal and bird diversity that is truly a reward for our hard work. In 2002, it seemed the only bird we saw was our faithful Mockingbird. It is for them that we named our business. While we still have a number of Mockingbird families with us each year, we are happy to say their neighborhood has greatly diversified.
At Mockingbird Meadows, we are passionate about eliminating the synthetic in our lives. We grow most of our food and focus primarily on fresh, local and organic sources for the rest. We practice an "everything in moderation" approach so long as our food, medicine, and other things we consume are as close as possible to the form they originally took in nature.
The honey bee is, herself, the original master herbalist. Our goal is to marry her hard work with that of ours—hand crafting products that we hope you will find useful in living a more healthy lifestyle. In our role as community herbalists, we are passionate about growing fresh, potent medicinal herbs and freely sharing information on the health benefits of raw honey and herbs. In addition to many all-purpose herbs, our farm specializes in herbs with a special affinity for the health of the female body in all of its phases.
As biodynamic farmers we look at ourselves as contributing parts of a greater circle, not the owners of land and animals. We view our farm as a partnership with the land we live on and the animals and bees who live here with us. Literally from the ground up, all of our farming practices take into account the soil as a living organism. Our composting practices and strict elimination of chemicals, or synthetic fertilizers and weed or pest control, are focused on building a strong, healthy soil. We believe that in building our soil health we are able to provide a more nutritious product for our customers.
